Contest Brief

Hello!

Looking for a video similar to the attached example. The version I want will contain equations and diagrams which are purely related to astronomy and astrophysics. The video will be mainly text, but please include two or three diagrams/charts like in the example.

The text should be white and have a bit of a texture to it, like in the example, as if it's being written on a blackboard in white chalk. Not a Sharpie like in the whiteboard style videos that everyone's doing these days! No specific requirement for the text/diagrams, as long as they are real and are related to astronomy or astrophysics. So it will be a case of finding some generic equations and the like from Google, recreate them (maybe in Illustrator, Photoshop or After Effects) and set them up within the frame of the video (After Effects/FCP/Nuke etc) and then animate their appearance as if they are being written on to a blackboard (Maybe the stroke effect in AE?). Have attached a PDF with a few links that might help.

You'll have to redraw the diagrams yourself... unless they're in the public domain, so make sure they're not carbon copies. I mean you cant; really copyright a diagram of the solar system as it is what it is... but it would be a bit naughty if the angle was exactly the same and the planets are in exactly the same position and any text on diagrams is exactly the same or in the same position etc etc. Hopefully that makes sense?

Keep in mind this is meant to represent a person drawing/writing on a blackboard, so there's not going to be masses of detail in any diagrams. Needs to have a bit of a rough, hand-written/drawn feel. Would be nice to have the solar system as one of the diagrams (without planet names as it would be too cluttered), so most people can tell it's a blackboard relating to space/astronomy/astrophysics, even if they don't understand the equations.

No need to show a hand writing them on and no camera moves or anything... should be a static scene. The only movement will be the of the equation/diagram/chart content as it is revealed over the duration of the video.

No background is required in the final render, I'll be adding my own. However, please use the attached blackboard texture in your entries. It will need to be removed for the final render. I need full ownership of the video upon completion, so no using stock elements or copyrighted assets.

Final deliverable: One Quicktime PNG with Alpha transparency. 29.97fps. 20 seconds duration. Resolution: 2880x1620. No background. White text/diagrams.

I think that covers everything. Thanks!

I'll accept entries up to 30 seconds if you feel the animation needs to be longer. There's no requirement to do so though, I'm happy with 20 seconds and the prize will be awarded based on quality rather than duration. Thanks!
