Contest Brief

UI Design and App Icon for iOS Checklist App according to these InVision clickable mockups:
http://goo.gl/JUAhHh
(It asks for your email. Feel free to use an anonymous email + name. It's just to attribute comments and see how many people view the mockups.)

I combine screen design and icon design into one project because it is best if the style is consistent and that is easiest coming from the same designer.
Please provide vector based artwork only, preferably in Sketch or svg formats.

See this mood board:

Visual direction
- Light
- Appropriate whitespace
- No heavy gradients
- Good contrast
- Strong supporting colors, can be somewhat playful (see the Slack example)

Screens to design
1. Overview screen with the 3 types of checklists (open, master lists and history)
https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/37COOIXYV#/screens/241970824
2. Actual open checklist "in action"
https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/37COOIXYV#/screens/241799057
3. Edit mode for master checklist
https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/37COOIXYV#/screens/241812590

(The rest of the screens in the prototype are derivatives and use the same basic elements so do not design those.)

App Icon
- Should relate to the theme of checklists
- It would be good to make some of the following features/qualities visible in the Icon:
- repeatable/multi-use checklists
- master checklists vs. individual uses of those lists
- it should NOT look like an icon for a to-do list App!
(The Icon may need a follow-up iteration.)

Heads up: I won't be online at the time the contest runs out so I can't immediately award the winner. I will do that at the latest on Friday.

You can add a master checklist by clicking "+ Add checklist" (Which I may rename to "Add master checklist".) You can tap one of the master checklists create a copy of that list and start checking it off. The copy appears in the "open lists". You can continue with an already open list by tapping it from the "open lists" section. There is no sharing functionality at this time. Thanks for your feedback, I'll make it more clear. However, for the visual design elements this won't change much.

Thanks for explanation. Different functions may sound not having so much difference for visual design elements but it has to make sense. It needs to be said that your app requires UX design more than UI design to place everything in logical and rational way that everyone would understand without explanations. I have modified your current UX in few spots. I am sure I can help more not only with the visual but how the app works if I completely understand the app.

p.s. I think you need to have all the screen designed by the designer otherwise you will face many UX issues by just trying to use elements of the 3 main screen. My design on main screen have changed few times after design the other screen. All screens are interlinked and as important. UX is very necessary for app design and it seems you don't give much value to it.

User can only add master checklist however can view open checklists when invited to them? If so wouldn't make more sense to change open list to sharing list?

The screen mockups show placeholders for images (the squares with the "X"-es). Please use some generic placeholder images in your design. Also, please show an example for a case when the user has not added an image. In that case, don't show an image and adjust the layout of the list item.

App Icon: please submit at least one version. More iterations might be necessary but that will go into a follow-up project.

Would you please explain the differences between Open listing category and Masters category? What makes masters special?

Sure, a master list is a "template". It allows you to define a list that can be used many times. Each time you decide to use a checklist, it opens a copy of a master. Example: you are starting 3 projects at the same time. Each project has its own "project start" checklist with the same items on it because they were all created from the "project start" master. A list is "open" as long as you haven't checked off all items on it or you have manually closed it. If you have suggestions for better/clearer terminology, I'm all-ears.
