  Finally, whoever i would have chosen as the winner, there would have been many many people who would have not won, that is many people who spent hours and days doing work on their covers... so there is no way to prevent that, no way... so people who are saying that now need to appreciate that is the nature of a competition and contest....

  It is not easy to give comments on each entry because there were approximately five hundred and eighty entries (580). I looked at to my knowledge at nearly every one. I gave a star- marking to give an idea if the person was on the right lines.

  You should give us comments on our entries. As you didn't give any positive or negative comment, how we supposed to know what we should change or do??

  As i said you are being OVER literal..the first brief that was given was the main guide. IT EXPLICITLY MADE MENTION OF “MODERNITY AND TRADITION MERGED INTO ONE”. As for the pattern thing it was introduced by “Maybe…” So there is flexibility. Yes, I was looking for that idea of curvy fonts and patterns etc. and that’s why im in the process, at this very moment, of buying a second design form another one of the entrants who came out with an excellent design following more the curvy font/pattern theme, namely #495 ). But crucially that does not mean that i am bound to reject another design that followed a particular aspect of the first brief and came out with what that entrant believed best imparted the message of the book. THAT WOULD BE UNFAIR. I repeat that this entrant was not given any special instructions to do this (Freelancer admin can verify that), so any accusation of unfairness is unfounded and as i said is based on lack of understanding.

     good for the designer! it will be amazing that you buy another entry of this person who followed what was given in brief. sounds more fair to me now!

  designer use their imagination in a way that will satisfy what client wants. most of the designers could come up with simpler average entries like that if your instruction were clear and same for everyone. no I didnt misunderstood, just disappointed on how I wasted 7 days in contest that select basic entry as winner.

     You are present at the contest, I often feel it where the description is different from the winning results. It happened because of differences in understanding. Then make experience and be patient. :) Good luck.

     I dont mind losing. I mind unfair decisions that cost designers days of efforts just because of lack of clarity over brief

  the winning entry is no way near to what you mentioned as what you need: modern curvy fonts and islamic persian pattern!

  This was entry #212 , granted it's beautiful, it's very unfair for you to have let people send more than 300+ entries, all with vague guidance, looking for something that will "wow" you.

  Im afraid you misunderstood. The instructions were the same to everyone, but I did say explicitly to use your own imagination. The pointers i gave were related to things that previously impressed me. This particular entrant was not given any special instructions. However he (like many other entrants) presented something of their own initiative and imagination. It just so happened it struck a chord with not just me, but four of the friends i showed it to (along side other ones that were more like the curvy pattern theme). The second best that i may actually still buy was precisely that type (curvy patterns etc.)
