Contest Brief
Dear Contestant,
Thank you for viewing this contest.
This contest is to design a dashboard for a business user to view details of petrol station fuel volumes by tank which they then act upon to schedule deliveries. The database behind it would provide the details including predictions (ullage is the amount of spare space in the tank ie total volume minus fuel volume) that then enables them to schedule a delivery.
The user interface needs to be easy for the user to navigate the total number of fuel sites (almost 300) and then click to view the specific information for a site. With this many sites the user may have to click to other pages eg page 1, 2 and 3 unless you have a great idea where they can navigate from one page. A search feature and ability to filter are a necessity. Colours, seperations and symbols should be used to also help the navigation.
Once the user selects a site they can then see and act upon the information for that specific site - in this case to schedule a delivery. A sample of the data for two sites is attached. This would be populated from the existing database (SQL). The ability to view a graph would be advantageous, again ideas are welcome as to the best way here.
Once the user has entered the delivery volume they press confirm which then sends the details to the database. The user can then return to the main page to continue their work on another site.
There will be links to other pages that could be at the top or side whichever you feel is the better. There will be four pages: dashboard, report centre (reporting features), control centre (administer the sites as per attached) and admin (user admin). This competition is to design the dashboard page only. The winner will have the opportunity to help with the other pages.
There have been a number of submissions and entries. To clarify, the main element to deliver are a set of finished designs for the dashboard. This needs to show the data from the excel sheet and not just a single tank per page. Each site has multiple tanks and all the data (actual numbers) for that site must be displayed vertically down the page (eg across the top of the page tank 1, tank 2, tank 3 etc with the numbers below each tank). This enables the end user to see the whole situation. The user can then input different delivery scenarios into this page and see the output. On top of this there needs to be the ability to see this in graph form but maybe this is required on this front page but in a click through - up to you to innovate this one.
I would like to confirm that users need to navigate a lits of 300 sites quickly and simply (with some filters) and once they select there should be only one site per page. On this page, the tanks need 14 days worth of data shown by tank in a vertical table similar to the data I attached. The user inserts deliveries that are likely to be across multiple tanks (the tanker fills up to 4 or 5 of the tanks in each delivery). The user therefore needs to be able to see all the tank data for the selected site together on one screen so that they can balance the delivery across the tanks.
The existing programme is written in C sharp with a Microsoft SQL database.
Good luck! Please ask any questions you like to help you with this contest.
