Contest Brief

You must tell me the best and most accurate method for a Metal Detector to Remotely Detect and Discriminate all Metal Targets at a distance of 1 mile or more away from the user, and at a depth of over 2000 feet deep. The device must be small enough to carry on a person. You must provide resources and accurate logic backing your methods. This long range detector must be able to detect large metal deposits that could also contain micron gold, and it must also detect very small metal nuggets the size of a small gold nugget at a distance of 1 mile or more at a depth of 2000 feet deep or more.

Metal Detector to Remotely Detect means: It can detect far from the user without wires in the ground.
I don't want dowsing rod information posted on my contest.
Magnetometer type detectors are not needed, they will not work for small metal targets from a distance.
Only post information that is realistic and that would actually be safe for the environment and the user.

Be as detailed as you can in your answer.

If you change you mind, and learn of a better method be sure to get it posted soon.

Have Fun, and Good Luck !!!

Valleyview, Although it would be very exciting to be able to use a dowsing-rod device as a metal detector, the technology just isn't there. However, that hasn't stopped people from selling such devices. For example, devices such as H3Tec, Sniffex, SniffexPlus, GT-200, etc are on the market. In some cases, the "manufacturers" claim their dowsing rod can detect gold almost exactly as your sketch and your description indicate. **NB - It doesn't work.** Moreover, the US Dept. of Justice has issued a warning against using these types of devices.
So, if I were you, I'd stay a mile away from this type of fraud.
    Very Respectfully

Valleyview, Would you be willing to describe some of the features in your drawing. For example, your drawing states that your hand held device will "transmit a signal, in all directions like a bubble". What type of signal were you imagining? Are you thinking along the lines of GPR? How would you use that to determine chemical composition such that you can detect a "micron of gold"?

how about a satellite -based system instead? that's probably the only way this would work as far as i know.

you are absolutely the greatest scientist who thought to built such a device ''Metal detector ,range 1 mile. But you are so spendthrift ,you are giving 30 dollars,I am amazed. Now,its my wish to work with you.I have a great idea to share with you.But 1st you have to award me the project.

Hi Nouman. I would need to know your plan and how you could accomplish it in detail and answer my questions I might have before I could consider awarding you the prize to the contest, or posting my project for you to work on. So it all depends on your answer to my contest.

DEUS METAL DETECTOR METHOD: The coil is the heart of this detector, handling the detecting, analysing and then transmitting processed information to both the remote control and the headphones. The coil is mounted to a very clever ‘S’ shaped stem system, which is fully adjustable via two locking cam grips, and can be fully collapsed for transportation. The remote control can then be fixed magnetically to the metal patch just above the handgrip. The whole setup is ridiculously light. It also has the ability of changing its frequency from between 4KHz to 18KHz in four graduated steps. 4KHz is ideal for deep ground penetration with reduced sensitivity to tiny fragments of metal, while the 18KHz setting is very sensitive to small objects like cut quarter hammered pennies.

At what distances and depths will this detector work?

My project is for long range metal detection. Not simple induced coil detectors that work only a few feet down.

hi, do you need a perpetuum mobile prototype as well? :)

Ok, I don't need to collect vibrations to power a circuit. I need to collect signals to see what metal objects are in the ground at 1 mile or more from where the user is standing while holding the metal detector and at a depth of over 2000 feet. It you have a solution for that please let me know quickly, because that would be of great interest to me.

      Thanks,
      Nick
