Contest Brief
Greetings,
I have been working on a fantasy novel series for a year now. The book is written in my native language (Persian) and I have started translating it to English recently. Since my English writing skill does not meet the novel-level quality I am looking for an editor who can not only edit, but re-write and increase the quality of the text up to accepted literature standards.
To get the job you have to be well read in the fantasy genre and do your magic on the attached sample (2 pages). Please write a bit about yourself too and the price per page you are expecting from this job.
Winner of the contest will get the job.
Feel free to ask any questions.
Facts:
- First volume would be ~500 pages.
- Project might take up to 1 year to finish. I will feed you work gradually as I translate.
- Whether you get credited as 'Editor' in the published novel is uncertain.

I haven't submitted yet, but I have a couple questions: 1. Would you prefer English, or American English? 2. Does the sentence beginning, "Once the prestigious..." refer to the whole Royal Guard, or only the runaways?

For the latter question, I mean the second to last sentence on the last page.

1. No preference
2. Whole Royal Guard
Thank you :)- 8 years ago

I understand that it is for your own personal tastes, but I would very much like to know what it is you disliked about my entry. I think others would feel the same. The last thing I want is to be ignorant of what went wrong with my entry for future attempts at acquiring work.

I'm sorry but I can't put the time to write down a fair explanation for the reasons behind of each of the entries rejection. But I will put up the final winner and you'll be able to compare your own work to that.

To answer Samantha and maybe others, rejections are mostly based on chemistry and my own personal taste. The quality of submitted works, Samantha included, is well above expectations.

Oh, so it's more of a personal preference issue then? Well, that's too bad, was hoping we could work together. T.T. You sure it wasn't to your liking? Oh well, thank you for your time and consideration anyways. Hope we might be able to work together on future projects together.:)

I will not rate any of the samples. I will keep what I liked to dicuss the terms and will reject the rest.

I've looked at your sample. It will be faster and easier for everyone if you don't write this but instead tell it to someone. If you force someone to edit a machine's translations, this job will never end and you'll go through several editors. The writing makes no sense right now as it is. You have quite the task on your hands. Good luck!

Thank you for your suggestion gpstberg, but this is how it is. Although I am not sure how can I tell 500 pages of a story to someone without writing anything :)

Hi - I've just submitted an entry to your competition. Obviously I hope you like what I've done but even if not I would really appreciate some feedback once you've had the time to look it over. I hope you find someone to help you with this project. :-)

Thank you all for your submissions so far. Sadly most of them are hard to read due to lack of proper resolution. Please try to convert your DOC files into JPG files using tools like http://www.zamzar.com/convert/doc-to-jpg/ and send them again.

You can also save them as a .PDF in Word then convert to .jpg in Adobe. This gives a decent resolution also.

Alternatively, import them to Publisher and export as a .jpg for printing.

I have converted the file and will upload - I think it has to be done one page at a time. The conversion doesn't include the comments that I had made in Word.
