General Office Jobs

General office work includes a variety of clerical tasks, including answering telephones, typing and filing. An office clerk often performs a variety of duties and tasks that is too diverse to be classified in any more specific office occupation. Office clerks have skills such as scheduling, writing meeting notes (including a sub-set of skills in shorthand note-taking and typing, usually at over 65 words per minute), meeting organization and time management. They must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as they respond to phone queries and emails and deal with internal messages and departmental requests.

As clerical or secretarial workers are often the first point of contact when a potential customer or client engages a business, it is the role of the worker to create a flattering first impression, as this will greatly improve the chances of this individual taking up the services offered.
