CAD Design Project – Automotive Dashboard Vent Redesign Project Overview I am looking for an experienced CAD designer with automotive product design experience to create a production-ready CAD model for a resin 3D-printed dashboard vent assembly. The project involves 3D scanning an OEM dashboard air vent and redesigning it into a simplified, single-piece assembly capable of integrating an aftermarket product while maintaining an OEM-style appearance. The final design must retain airflow through the vent while removing all unnecessary mechanical components to reduce complexity and improve manufacturability. Scope of Work The successful freelancer will be responsible for: * 3D scanning the supplied OEM dashboard air vent (or working from a scan if discussed). * Creating an accurate CAD model of the vent geometry. * Designing a one-piece replacement vent assembly that: * Incorporates an aftermarket product mounting interface based on the project's established design direction. * Retains functional airflow through the vent. * Removes all unnecessary OEM mechanical components (directional adjustment mechanisms, moving parts, etc.). * Is structurally strong enough for long-term vehicle use. * Is optimised for high-resolution resin 3D printing. * Producing a clean, manufacturable CAD model rather than simply reproducing the original vent. Design Requirements The finished design should: * Be a single-piece component. * Fit into the factory dashboard using the OEM mounting points. * Maintain an OEM-style appearance where visible. * Preserve as much airflow as practical. * Eliminate all moving parts wherever possible. * Be suitable for resin printing with minimal post-processing. * Include appropriate wall thicknesses and structural reinforcement where required. Deliverables The final deliverables should include: * Native CAD files (preferred format: SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar). * STEP (.step/.stp) file. * STL file suitable for resin printing. * Any reference files created during the design process. * Commercial ownership * Fitment revisions Ideal Experience Preference will be given to freelancers with experience in: * Automotive interior component design. * Reverse engineering from 3D scans. * CAD for additive manufacturing. * Resin 3D printing design. * Designing production-ready consumer products.
