ASSESSMENT TASK 1: Video Lecture

ASSESSMENT TASK 1: Individually I would like you to produce a video lecture on the business, governmental/regulatory and economic environment of any of the 160 countries that make up the WTO (with the exception of those covered in class). ASSESSMENT TASK 1: ASSESSMENT CRITERIA The lecture is expected to cover those major aspects of the business environment of the chosen country that are relevant to international business (e.g., direct exporting, or investing). In general, the following aspects might be included in your lecture: • The political/economic structures and the historical basis for them • Culture(s) of the country and implications for business • Political and economic systems of the country and how they may affect business • Nature of business systems in the chosen country, focusing on business organisation, leadership, human resource management and change management principles, and how each may affect business operations • Differences in finance and banking systems and how these may affect business • Any difference in legal systems and how these may affect business • Important ethical matters of that chosen country and how they may affect business You have three options for submitting your video: Create your own YouTube (or other video site) channels, set the video to “private” if you don’t want the world to discover your genius, and e-mail me the link. Create a Dropbox or other cloud account, upload it there and e-mail me the link. Bring it to me on a USB stick. I would expect your video to run no more than 15 minutes.
When preparing your presentation, keep the following points in mind: Each presentation is allocated 15 minutes in total. So plan for your presentation to last for about 12-13 minutes; in my experience this will come out nearly perfect. For the benefit of your audience, you should try to make your presentation interesting, informative and stimulating. Rehearsals are a useful way to ensure that you use your time efficiently. You may use a script, but be careful not to appear as if you’re reading your notes. The use of audio-visual aids is up to you. Make sure the size of your text is large enough for the class to read comfortably. Speak clearly and not too quickly. Try to avoid any annoying mannerisms and overuse of colloquial language. Make sure you have sufficient eye contact with the audience. Ensure you reference your sources appropriately.
