Sustainability of tourism destinations in New Zealand
Introduction
It is said that man must live, but so should the environment. This paper focuses on the coexistence between the tourism sector in New Zealand and environmental conservation plans. Tourism relies a lot on the beauty of the environment; therefore, the latter must be conserved as much as possible for this sake. A model known as VICE (Visitor, Industry, Community and Environment), is used in this project to help explain the four major areas of connection in the field of tourism and environmental conservation. This works looks at the importance of ensuring sustainability in tourism destinations in New Zealand, by focusing on environmental awareness as the tool for natural resource conservation. An expansion of the tourism sector leads to pressure on the environmental resources (Hall & Page, 2006). This paper looks at the ability of sustainable tourism to avert such eventualities. There are two research questions for this project, which form the basis of this study in its entirety.
