Data collection research project involving ionic migration/conductivity in unstressed and stressed ceramic electrolytes as used in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). Some of these papers derive from the industry involved, but the majority will likely come from academic studies. This project does NOT require researcher to characterize materials or conduct experimentation. This RFQ is for identification and ready access purposes. It will provide appropriate papers, and reference rapid means to navigate specific materials’ characteristics via matrices/spreadsheet. Please pay special attention to alumina and materials that exhibit similar coefficients of expansion, as well as perovskites. It involves compilation of a comprehensive (though perhaps not exhaustive) collection of published, peer-reviewed articles, and organization of the contained information in a spreadsheet (MS Excel preferred, but any compatible program acceptable) utilizing the following criteria for characteristics’ criteria: 1. Membrane material – electrolyte only (e.g. yttria stabilized zirconium, alumina, aluminum titrate, etc.) 2. Thickness of membrane film (in µm or nanometers.) We are principally interested in sub-micron scale. 3. Membrane surface area. 4. Sealants used. 5. Temperatures 6. Velocity of ionic migration through electrolyte membrane (Siemens per cm). 7. Velocity comparison (by order of magnitude) of stressed membrane to unstressed, bulk material (where available.) 8. Electrode materials used for both anode & cathode (e.g. Pt, Ru, Ni, Co, doped ceramics, etc.) 9. Working fluid (e.g. O, H, He, Ar, etc.) 10. Internal stress during operation (expansion) 11. Means of obtaining stress (where applicable.) e.g., differences in coefficient of expansion, piezoelectric tensions applied, etc. 12. Fabrication method used. Most, but not all, of these will involve ceramic casting of various sorts. Such studies have been conducted for over ten years, and probably number ~50+, but could number several hundred. Ignore duplicate data. Researcher will present the articles themselves (PDF format please), and the above bullet-listed matrix criteria should reference to the articles (comment tags in Excel cells). Researcher should have a degree in chemical engineering, physical chemistry, materials science, or a related field. Researcher should have access to deep knowledge base in chemical engineering/materials science or related field dealing with electroceramics. Credentials required.

Dear sir, Greetings. I just have researched on some of your topics that you are intersted in. For SOFCs, electrode and electrolyte materials are commonly perovskite- or fluorite-structured oxides that can tolerate large oxygen vacancy concentrations and many different atomic impuri- ties (dopants) at high concentration. The electrolyte, on the other hand, must be both electronically insulat- ing and highly conductive to oxide ions, and so materials such as yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) or (GDC) are typically used as solid electrolytes. Lower valent dopants A(Y in YSZ and Gd in GDC) are added to the elec-trolyte material to fix vacancy concentrations at very high levels. High device efficiency requires that ionic conductivity and oxygen exchange kinetics are maximized, and also that anode materials actively catalyze fuel oxidation. Therefore, SOFCs are often operated between 600 and 1000 ◦c , and this operating environment confers the additional materials requirement of high thermal stability. There have been several studies predicting the strains that develop due to thermal and chemical expansion within nonstoichiometric oxides. Clague et al. concluded from a three-dimensional finite element model of a Ni-YSZ half cell constructed from FIB data that stresses arising at the Ni-YSZ interface due to thermal expansion were in excess of the yield stress of Ni, and that plastic deformation was a likely mechanism...

I am a professional Chemical Engineer, with a Ph.D. from Imperial College, London. My long career with the multinational Unilever, as a plant manager first, and finally as the Technical Director, has given me direct hands-on experience not only on many aspects of manufacturing operations, but also in related quality and HSE aspects. This has given me opportunities in applying my chemical engineering knowledge along with other competencies and skills./ /My subsequent experience as a Senior International Researcher at the International Water Management Institute, where I have published a number of journal articles, has strengthened my capacity to research and write including carrying out literature reviews, and writing scientific/engineering/technical articles,/ /My strong academic background and the unique business experience clearly places me in an ideal position to undertake this assignment, and being a person who pays attention to detail and somewhat of a perfectionist, I am quite confident that I will be able to deliver your product to your entire satisfaction within the agreed time frame. I would however need to understand the job bit more, and fine tune and agree on the the time frame before I would undertake the job if offered. One issue: I am travelling right now, and will be back to base on Feb.14. I can then work towards delivering the report by end Feb. Thank you for your consideration.
