Hello, I'm an experienced AWS user and MySQL admin. I have many years of experience with Linux and I've used SSH tunnels many times, including to access databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) hosted on AWS. Basically you need to forward TCP port 3306 through SSH; you can also add a security group rule to allow access to the RDS database. To use port forwarding you need access to a Linux based EC2 instance that has access to the RDS DB. Best wishes, iticus

As I remember you don't need putty to connect to Amazon RDS ;) I can connect Tableau to your Amazon RDS MySQL instance without any problems.
