The name of this mechanical, hardware, and software device that has just become patent pending in the US is a “Golf Grip Hand Structure Efficiency Device” and is somewhat self-explanatory. The device in principle needs to extend through a golfer’s hands in similar fashion to a golf grip of a golf club, but be just long enough to cover the span of the golfer’s hands. Furthermore, the rigidity and stiffness that all golf shafts/grips have (referring specifically here to the section contained within the hands), which provide a very secure and common axis to both hands to help golfers coordinate the working of the hands throughout a swing much more easily, need to be removed in order to measure the true gripping hand structure efficiency of any golfer. To that end, it is generally required that the device be as small in diameter, as light, and as flexible as possible along its entire length as a few examples of its physical attributes. In other words, the device needs to behave as though there is absolutely nothing in the hands of a golfer, allowing complete independent freedom of movement of a golfer’s hands as much as possible in the course of making a swing with the device in hand. The device would feasibly have wireless sensors embedded within it at strategic locations to gather critically needed data, the data being subsequently analyzed by an appropriate software application (which is also needed). While numerous various measurements can be taken, analyzed, and be very valuable, one of the most important is a comparison of the axes of or through each of the hands relative to each other at any given point(s) of a golf swing (when no stabilizing golf shaft/grip is common to both hands), which largely determines whether a golfer’s true gripping hand structure is efficient or not. Due to the multitude of various individual golf clubs used when playing the game, it is absolutely critical in golf that a dependable and repeatable “base” reference swing be available for any golfer with no golf club in hand (in principle performing a swing as though a perfectly fit and made golf club is always in hand). A base swing performance is a foundational element toward proper and effective golf swing development and clubfitting, and the use of this golf grip hand structure efficiency device helps to determine how effectively a golfer can currently perform his/her base golf swing and how to proceed next (based upon how good the golfer’s gripping efficiency measurement, value, or rating is). A vague first idea for the hardware/mechanical portion of the device would be a very flexible piece of silicone in somewhat the shape of a blunt-ended pencil that could have some small sensors embedded within it. It is possible the sensors could be wired, but that might cause various issues based upon the type of movement performed and data needed. But there certainly could be other manifestations or embodiments of the device instead, with a couple of possible examples being virtual-reality-type gloves with sensors attached to them that can be worn, or a wireless sensor(s) embedded within something like a ring that I have seen, where of few of them worn in strategic places on the fingers of the hands could help get the type of data that is needed. I am not extremely well versed in all currently available types of sensors, materials, manufacturing methods, and so forth that could possibly be utilized for this particular device/application and which one(s) might be most efficient. I am certainly open to all suggestions at this time. More detailed information can be made available and discussed with qualified parties. I am open to working with a single entity or multiple entities that might specialize in one or more needed areas like materials, electronics, and software application programming. I am open to either fixed quotes or hourly rates for any part(s) of the project that one feels qualified for and interested in. Thanks.

Good Evening: Your project sounds very interesting and potentially feasible in either embodiment in your description. We have in-depth experience in sensor-driven product designs throughout a variety of industries including, consumer, medical and scientific. Additionally, we just finished the development of a laser based training device for golfers and expect to see the product enter the market within the next 12 months. I'm an avid golfer so having the opportunity to help inject innovation into the sport is always an exciting challenge for me! Electro-mechanical experimentation would be a logical first phase in developing your idea - then evolve the visual, finite ergonomics and method of manufacture. Our business relationships are all time + materials so hourly is preferred. For a project with your level of functional/feedback complexity I would suggest an estimated budget of 250-300hr to get into a functional design. Would be a pleasure to discuss in more detail so please don't hesitate to contact me at your convenience. Kindest Regards, Zach Conrad, Principal Designer ZCD Product Design Studio
