Regarding your open position for a creative short story writer, IAMHUMAN and I have over 20 years experience as a professional freelance author and editor. Many of my short essays have won national awards, and I've been selected by my peers to judge two other competitions. I've written and edited both fiction and non-fiction, and I specialize in fictional spoofs about politics and culture when I'm not writing web content or feature stories.
Because it is not possible to attach a pdf to these internal freelancer.com bid applications, I have included a short story synopsis as inline text below the next sentence.
Thank you for your time.
Synopsis for _Looking at it Upside Down_
Fifteen immortals are abandoned as children in Sparta and raised in that violent culture. Later they journey to
Athens and study with Plato and, later, Socrates' in a search for absolute truth, as well as receiving an education in Homer's deities.
They are typical immortals: immune to disease, can reginerate tissue, age slowly, but can die by the sword. Four die serving Alexander the Great.; afterward, the survivors close ranks and wander the Earth, occasionally leaving behind a "half-blood" child. The children gravitate to the older immortals by instinct as they enter adulthood.
The immortals discover a portal to uncountable parallel universes and begin traveling to other worlds in search of "home," driven by an instinct to find it. Five more die in battles in other worlds. They do not understand "how" their portal works until the age of Newtonian discovery. As the scientific world explodes with mathematical, rational explanations of the universe, they experiment with controlling their portal, but are unable to find home nevertheless.
Upon the age of quantum physics, specifically at the
publishing of Heisenberg's Theory of Uncertainty, they become despondent that they will ever gain control over their portal. Two immortals become so despondent they commit suicide, leaving only four "pure-bloods": RACHEL, her brother MICHAEL, and two men with whom the siblings share an intimate friendship, WAYNE, and JAKE. Jake is somewhat older than the others, and the only one who can remember the people who abandoned them, although he will not speak of it to the others).
The story begins after Rachel has abandoned the others for marriage, and a "normal" life, a fact which Jake greatly resents. An unusual event forces her to return to the others, and again search for home: "Someone" has contacted THEM. Eventually, they will be forced to either
believe him or not.
