Basic game code

Basically, I'm looking for the game mechanics where there will be a paddle towards the bottom of the screen - much like pong- only I'll put in a graphic in place of it. The user should be able to move it back and forth horizontally with his or her finger and the paddle should track with the finger. Towards the top of the screen is a horizontal line. Sitting on top of (or directly above) the line is a game character that will move back and forth horizontally on that line. That game character will drop objects as it is moving back and forth. The object of the game is for the user to catch these objects with the paddle. I did a quick demonstration with the paddle and it almost tracks with the finger when moving fast, but not completely.
