rebuild a linux boot partition

Low end DVR for video surv, pulled HDD from case and looked at with Windows box (99% chance it is Linux format), Win wanted to initialize disk said no.. it apparently did it anyway.. booted box to linux and it could not see HDD, put HDD back in HDD and it formatted drive... clearly it only overwrote the boot partition.. need commands needed to have it rebuild the boot ? can do it remotely in Teamviewer or w/e is easiest
