I’m Arun K Jain ,a social entrepreneur working in the area of energy access for the urban poor. I am a LED enthusiast, experimentor and hydroponic hobbyist. I became a LED lighting and gardening enthusiast 5 years ago at the age of 53.
Besides seeking LED solutions for different applications , i love growing different types of vegetables, plants by experimenting with different growing techniques like hydroponics, acquaponics and Organic .
So I am absolutely thrilled to call myself a LED enthusiast and a home farmer. Here’s a bit more on my background:
Hometown: Gurgaon, Haryana state, India.I also lived in New Delhi for 20 years
College: Regional Engineering College (now NIT).I graduated in electronics engineering.
Post Graduate school: Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi. I earned a Post Graduate Diploma in international trade.
Continuing education: Self study in LED technology and hydroponics and aquaponics .
Work: Managed an import export trading business for over 25 years. Founder of LAL’TEN’ – a social enterprise providing solar based LED lighting kits to poor hawkers. Over 30 years experience in product , vendor and market development.
Expertise:Exceptional skill in disruption to find cost effective solutions in competitive situations.
Interests: I am enamored with LED technology and its application in lighting, growing food , wellness and hydroponics. I enjoy reading about technology and ancient Indian history in particular. I also love travelling, nature walks, gardening .
