perform parametric study on non-ideal Rankine power cycles that use either water or CO2. We will employ non-ideal turbine, pump, and heat exchanger in the parametric study. 1. EES and CoolProp code verification by hand calculation – use the following states for the verification • State 2 (boiler entry): P = 4 MPa (The temperature will depend on the pressure of the pump inlet) • State 3 (boiler exit, turbine entry): P = 4 MPa, T = 800oC • State 4 (turbine exit): P = 100 kPa • State 1 (condenser exit): P = 100 kPa and X = 0.00 (Saturated Liquid) • The turbine efficiency is 45% • The pump efficiency is 60% • The second law efficiency of the heat exchanger is 75% 2. Parametric study using Water and CO2 a. Study the effects of maximum temperature by changing the high temperature (boiler exit) to 1200oC, 1225oC, 1250oC, 1275oC, 1300oC, 1325oC, and 1350oC and keeping the remaining given parameters in part 1. Study its effect to the cycle’s net work and thermal efficiency. Does increasing the boiler maximum temperature improve the thermal efficiency? Explain. b. Study the effects of boiler pressure by changing the boiler pressure to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 MPa while keeping the remaining given parameters. Study its effect to the cycle’s network and thermal efficiency. Does increasing the boiler pressure improve the thermal efficiency? Explain. c. Study the effects of turbine efficiency: Change the turbine efficiency to 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100% while keeping the remaining given parameters. Study its effects to the cycle’s net work and thermal efficiency. Does increasing the turbine efficiency improve the thermal efficiency? Discuss. d. Perform similar study for CO2 – use the CO2 phase diagram to find out the proper pressure and temperature ranges. Since this is a Rankine cycle, the CO2 must change phase (NOT gas all the time)
