ASP Text Response

I have an html page that uses the [login to view URL] to run and send values to an as page as shown: [login to view URL]('[login to view URL]' + [login to view URL] + '&' + 'UsrPass=' + [login to view URL]) The asp page then adds the details to a database (sql server 2000.) When the database procedure finds that a username allready exists it returns the username value as -1. My problem is that Im not sure how to return that response to the origional html page so that I can display a response to the user. I have tryed [login to view URL]("Test") in the asp page and [login to view URL], .Response on the html page but It returns [login to view URL] as undefined. I need an example script that can solve my problem.
