This could be a VB project with an access db as well. REQUIREMENT: A Microsoft Access database to track and keep records of maintenance intervals on a small fleet of rental boats. OVERVIEW: Maintenance on boats is typically tracked by engine hours or by days, or by a combination of either/or. For example the goal for an engine oil change may be 150 hours or 6 months, which ever comes first. Some boats have one engine, some have two, some have generator (with a third engine). A table will be set up with the specifics of each boat that tracking is required for. Periodically (ideally at the end of each rental) the engine hours will be updated by way of a data input screen for that purpose only. This screen will contains fields that include, but are not limited to, boat name, date of rental, renters last name, rental number, ending engine hours, and so forth. Every field must be reportable. Periodically (ideally at the end of each day) the maintenance work done for a boat that day will be entered by way of a data input screen. This screen will include fields such as boat name, date of maintenance, hour meter reading when maintenance performed, what task was performed (oil change, for example), by whom, and so forth. Some of the options, such as task and by whom, will come from drop down boxes populated elsewhere. Initially the tasks tracked will be limited to about a dozen. Later the project will expand to gather specific complaints at the end of each rental from the renter and to use these complaints to cause new tasks to be required. Tasks will then be tracked by open, closed, still pending and so forth. REPORTS: Can be viewed on screen and or printed. A selection of reports must be available based upon the reporting criteria laid out elsewhere. Reports may include: Boats due for maintenance soon and what task is anticipated, boats past due for maintenance and for what tasks, historical reporting on when previous maintenance was performed and by whom.
