Database Totaling

I have an intranet application that allows a user to create user-defined SQL tables using a gui interface. The interface also allows the user to create views of the data and specify the sorting and grouping of the data.

The application reads the database view structure and then constructs the SQL to create the view. It essentially builds a select statement on the fly based on user-defined criteria. This is all done within a stored procedure.

I want to add the ability to perform aggregate functions (count, sum, average) on these user-defined views and think a good approach is to have the SQL perform the aggregation.

You can see the application at demo.serran.net. After you login go to Shared Database. Click the Orders link to see the data in the table. Click the Views to see how the views are constructed using the GUI interface.

I need someone to modify the existing stored procedure to enable it to create the totals/subtotals on the user-defined fields. I would like the SP to create the totals based on the information in the following artice: [[url removed, login to view]][1]

The query shown in this article is based on a static orders table. The tables in my application are dynamic so the solution needs to be generalized to create running totals on these dynamic tables.
