We require a database system for an estate agent. You are concerned with the part of the system that will include recording the details of properties for sale. There are a number of different categories of property such as commercial which can be divided into shops and warehouses, and domestic which can be divided into houses and flats. All properties have a price, an address and a vendor, the person selling the property. All properties have a number of floors, number of rooms for which we record their name or function and their dimensions. Different types of property have different additional attributes. All commercial properties have a type of use to include the planning permission. Shops have a frontage attribute (length of shop front in feet). Domestic properties all have a type such as 'terrace', 'semi-detached', 'penthouse' etc. Houses have a garden attribute.

We may also have details of the progress of the sale of a property, this will include: the status such as 'under offer', 'contracts exchanged' , 'sold' etc, the sale price (which may be different to the advertised price) and the buyer.

The system should be able to answer questions such as:

* Which properties are advertised between 150,000 and 200,000 pounds?

* What are the names and addresses of vendors who are also buying other properties?

* Which houses have a bedroom larger than 20' x 15' ?

* Produce a list of shops in BD7 arranged by their frontage.

* What types of house have 3 or more bedrooms?

The submission will cover the analysis; design and implementation in an Object/Relational system and design only for an Object System. The implementation should include appropriate use of the advanced features of PostgreSQL. Your submission should include:

* A diagrammatic representation of the entities in the system and their relationships (E/R diagram,UML class diagram).

* Details of the tables etc. that you implemented, details of your test data, and screen shots to show how your system answered the queries. (This can be from psql you are not required to build any particular interface to the system.)

* An ODL schema for an object database implementation.

* A discussion of the differences between an Object/Relational and Object solution of this problem. Any assumptions you have made.
