Requirements/Technologies suggested for develop the system: + Linux Ubuntu + Kurento framework (internally is Gstreamer) + HTML5 + WebSockets + JavaScript, jQuery + NodeJS + WebRTC + PHP + BootStrap + CSS3 + RTSP streamer (local, implemented in C) The proposal flow for one camera are the nexts: Option #1: [WebCam]-->[Linux]-->[VirtualDevice /dev/videoX]--->[RTSP Streamer]--->[Kurento]--->[WebRTC (WebM)]--->[WebBrowser(Chrome|Firefox|Opera)] Option #2: [WebCam]-->[WebBrowser(Firefox||Chrome)]-->[WebRTC (webM)]--->[Kurento]-|-->[WebRTC (WebM)]--->[WebBrowser (<video> tag)] |--->[transcoding to H.264]--->[RTSP] -->[Native App (Android|iOS)] |--->[transcoding to H.264]--->[RTSP] --> WebBrowser (Flash)] You can do Broadcast of one video source to 100 clients approximately. Why do Broadcast? Because in the index page there are previews of each webcam available. Don't use flash, this mean less CPU usage. More For the chat, is possible use WebRTC to real-time communication. For the amount that is offered I think the streaming and the chat rooms are a trade of time and money. This kind of projects must be more expensive but I'm doing a big discount because I'm interested work with video. This is a survey about how the back-end will work.
