We have a budget available to find a solution for our trouble regarding OSM working on our own (in cooperation with a Taiwanese manufacturer) Windows CE 6.0 device.
We tried a few navigation software providers, but "OziExplorer" was working the best on a Windows CE 6.0 device until now. Never the less, we have a trouble related to 1) tiny OSM area maps for usage, 2) downloading many separate maps to cover a large region and 3) Loads of converting time for OStreetM and OseaM maps.
As I did some reading, I saw there is a complete data available via planet.openstreetmap.org. But only in .osm data.
As you know may be know, and available to assist us?
1. Which navigation software would you advice - comparing to OziExplorer ?
2. Is there a solution to use this planet .OSM data - and turn it into .map / .ozf (OziExplorer file format) in bulk ?
3. Can you divide the planet .OSM data to large regions in bulk ? (for instance North Europe, South Europe, Eastern Europe, etc.) of batches around 4 gig - and have the separate maps of .map / .ozf data available per region?
As I have seen this is available for Garmin.
We hope a developer here has knowledge about OpenStreetMap & OpenSeaMap. Who can assist us with knowledge & work on data of .OSM in bulk.
Let us know if you have any knowledge!
Hola. Have you found help to your mapping project? Can't unfortunately offer you professional programming help in this case but because you said "if you have any knowledge..." here's my input as a fellow Openstreetmap user: I use an antique GPS device (with Windows CE 5.0) as an emergency offline map while traveling new cities. Maps I load from OpenStreetMaps to OziExplorer. There are solutions available for this conversion part and process flow is quite simple: you select desired map area (by coordinates), select zoom levels you want and hit go. End result is Ozi-ready-folder with map pictures and OziExplorer map files. All this takes less than 10 clicks - however the processing time on PC (converting OSM map data to MapImage) is long (in my case often takes hours). Also, because it's Image based Ozi maps, maps do take quite a lot of space. Can be hundreds MBs for one city. Don't know if this is something suitable for your needs but incase you find anything useful out of it feel free to contact me - I'm more than happy to share my solution.
