Attached to this project I have two ascii text files, [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] that I need merged with conditions, and I need a quick and dirty VB6 project to do it.
File **one** looks like this:
1|36042|00 05 09.9|+45 13 45|6.70
2|128569|00 05 03.8|-00 30 11|6.29
3|128572|00 05 20.1|-05 42 27|4.61
4|91701|00 05 42.0|+13 23 46|5.51
5|21085|00 06 16.0|+58 26 12|5.96
6|214963|00 06 19.0|-49 04 30|5.70
7|10978|00 06 26.5|+64 11 46|5.59
8|73743|00 06 36.8|+29 01 17|6.13
+ 9000 lines similar
File? **two** looks like this:
1|And
2|Psc
3|Psc
4|Peg
5|Cas
6|Phe
7|Cas
8|And
+ 9000 more line like this
The files are **not** the same length. These are "pipe" | separated lines. Note that the first field is a number and **both files** have that field, **but** the two files do not have the same numbers in all lines. Some numbers may be missing.
I want you to open file1 and append file two to the end of the fields of file one **IF the first field in File2 matches**.
The **resultant file** you create **[login to view URL]** should have entries that look like this:
1|36042|00 05 09.9|+45 13 45|6.70|1|And
2|128569|00 05 03.8|-00 30 11|6.29|2|Psc
3|128572|00 05 20.1|-05 42 27|4.613|Psc
You will note that the first field number **matches the next to the last field.**
Looks easy enough, but here's the catch, if you do a simple loop through both files and append file2 to file1, starting in about line 92, the fields will not match. So here is what I what you to do. File1 is the **key** file. Load the first? field of file1 and see if any line in file2 matches the first field. If it does, the append the info as in the example above. This will have to be a recursive loop to get the matches you need.
## Deliverables
All but about 50 to a hundred of the files in file1 will have a match. If there is not match in file 2 to file1 then append the number and "none" in the last field of [login to view URL] record.
Here is how to tell if you got it right. The very last line of the file you create [login to view URL] should have both first fields matching. I cannot strees enough how important this is, otherwise the resultant data is useless.
This is a onetime shot utility so it doesn't have to be pretty, just functional BUT I do need it well commented so I can follow the logic.
Just give me a simple VB6 project that will work with the attached files.
