Define and interpret users personal tastes for graphic novels

This is a shot in the dark. I'm aware there are quite a few out there who are interested in the medium of comics/graphic novels, but don't know where to start. Is it possible to create a tool that would lead them to specific recommendations for books when, this is important, they're completely new to the medium. It would have to somehow assess their taste in books/movies/TV/anything else or record hobbies or subjects of specific interest and then match that information up with a database of existing books. I've thought this could be done with an on-line questionaire or (probably a huge long-shot) ideally, linking with their accounts in Amazon, Netflix, etc. Where Amazon is concerned, this could be a sales tool and link back to them directly.
Where the comics database is concerned, that can be input independently as long as the structure is set up and reasonably simple to use.
