The software takes a Word or OpenDocument file. 1) It first strips these files from all things that are not supported by ePub 2 standard but leaves everything in that IS supported. 2) It tries to create a table of content (TOC) based on the headlines 3) User gets shown the result (text + TOC) and acknowledges it or repeats the process with a new file 4) User gets different publication options with rates so he can compare based on price of his eBook (data should be updatable) 5) User choses a publication method 6) Software asks the user for all metadata (cover, price, description etc.) that's required by the chosen publication option (I will provide the details, data should be updatable) 7) Software converts the file to a valid ePub with a working TOC 8) ePub gets validated locally (ePubCheck is available to do that) 9) Software shows / prints a tip sheet for the user: "What to do now" based on the publication option (I will provide PDFs, should be updatable), like "Go there...", "Do this..." Ideally, software should be easy to deploy on Windows and MacOS. Prerequisites: Must save old projects in a separate folder so the process can be repeated. Must be localizable by localization file (I will provide the translation). Must have a nice, clean interface. Must check for updates and get updates from my web server (options, PDF files) I don't care about the programming environment. I might also be interested in an online app with the same functionality, if interested and preferred, you can also quote on that.

Hi, this sounds like an interesting project. I always enjoyed doing conversion tools. I could do the project in either form, application or webservice. What I would do as first is some sort of "conversion" module in python than can be used in both context, which should accelerate the entire process. Then I can implement your prefered UI method first as part of this project.(this bid, $1500) Once this done, if you are satisfied with it, we could do a second project together with the second method at a lower price since I'll be using the same module. ($750) For the module part, there are python libraries to read/write docx, doc and epub files. For the application part, I would use pyside, which is a python implementation of QT, and then convert it to a single file .exe for your ease of use. For the webservice part, I'd use a simple python framework called bottle on the server side and a single page application using backbone.js+jquery on the browser side. These choices should result in a very smooth experience on both UIs. My account here is fairly new, but I've been in the industry for 6+ years, 3 of which have been freelancing. I have tackled many similar projects, like generating pdfs and powerpoints, and I suggest tools I'm very confident in and that are standards in the industry. Hi, I'm Delphi expert with previous experience with ePub (I have developed ePub viewer). Do you want to handle .doc, .docx, .odt format? Will on a target computer be installed Word or OpenOffice? If not handling (reading) those input formats will be a challeange especially if MacOS is requirement. I don't know if there is some library that can handle (and handle correctly) all these formats on both systems.
