I have been working on .NET since 2002 and have developed USB key based login on different websites without entering userid and password. User used to insert USB key into the system and open up the browser and type the url. USB key app used to check the browser url automatically, if url exist then apply userid and password automatically and performed Login operation. This is my experience as per your requirements.
