Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays celebrated in America. This holiday is followed thank for the blessing of the harvest and also to the preceding year which brought in wealth and fortune. This day falls on the fourth Thursday of November. It is one of the oldest celebrations in America that has deep religious and cultural roots. The essential part of Thanksgiving is the dinner menu. People welcome guests, families and friends for Thanksgiving and the entire family will gather around a large table enjoying an extensive menu of exquisite foods. It is an important occasion for the whole family to sit around the table and display their gratitude.
The central part of a Thanksgiving dinner is a large roasted turkey. The main meal is accompanied by several dishes that are made using foods from the Native Americans. This tradition is a reminder that the pilgrims were fed by the Native Americans as they journeyed through the country. Historically, the pilgrims and Wampanoag at Plymouth Colony feasted on an extensive dinner containing turkey, venison, waterfowl, fish, berries, clams, fruit, squash and pumpkin. Many of these first foods are still included in thanksgiving dinner. However, the fascination of seafood as a part of thanksgiving dinner is lost.
