I want to re-engineer an existing plate-clamping assembly so it can be produced on a CNC mill as cheaply as possible while still working every time. The moving mechanism and other machined components must stay exactly as they are in function and basic geometry—I cannot afford to tweak those two areas because they are critical to how the product performs. Scope of work • Simplify every feature that is currently time-consuming or tool-intensive to machine. • Replace bespoke shapes with straightforward 2.5-axis operations wherever feasible. • Select an off-the-shelf extension spring from the AliExpress catalogue that can deliver roughly 0.5 – 1 kg of clamping force and is offered in multiple spring-rate variants so I can fine-tune grip without a mechanical redesign. • Design a compact, dedicated mounting and guidance path for that spring so it installs quickly and never binds. • Keep all redesigned parts made from aluminum, except for the base plate. . Deliverables 1. Updated 3D CAD model in both native CAD format and STEP format. 2. Complete 2D manufacturing drawings including dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and surface-finish requirements, optimized for cost-effective CNC machining. 3. Bill of Materials (BOM) including: - Selected extension spring (AliExpress link, SKU, dimensions, and available spring-rate options) - All standard fasteners and purchased components 4. Design report (PDF) briefly explaining: - The design changes made - How each change reduces machining time, manufacturing cost, or assembly complexity - Why the selected spring and mounting solution were chosen If you have a background in cost-down design for CNC parts and know how to source hardware on AliExpress, I’d love to see examples of similar assemblies you’ve streamlined.
