Project - Optimizing the performance of a mixing / pumping impeller and investigate improvements to the performance the project is in 3 stages model existing configuration followed by trial of different configurations and final optimization .
The impeller is used on a process comprises a series of tanks (solvent extraction process) about 15 in total – the mixing impeller is positioned over a hole (inlet) in the bottom of the tank and has a pumping action to draw fluid from the previous tank – we want to model the standard arrangement then investigate if improvements can be made to the suction – by positioning the impeller closer to the bottom of the tank or changing the impeller profile or simply increasing the speed – which would have a negative effect on energy costs - payments at each stage.
Stage 1 model existing configuration - establish power draw / torque
Stage 2 Evaluate the most promising options to improve / optimize the suction
Stage 3 Final optimization
