Freelance Video Editor – Scripted Crime Drama Series Project: 219 Format: Scripted Crime Drama Series Production Company: The New Black Entertainment The New Black Entertainment is seeking an experienced freelance video editor to assist with the final editing and refinement of the first two episodes of our scripted crime drama series, 219. This is not a request to edit an eight-episode series from scratch. The series has already been filmed, the footage is organized, and substantial editing work has already been completed. Current Priority Our immediate goal is to perfect Episode 1 and Episode 2 and bring both episodes to a polished, professional, presentation-ready cut. Episode 1 is already edited and primarily requires revisions, refinement, and additional finesse. Episode 2 is also substantially edited and is very close to completion. We are looking for an editor who can work with the existing cuts, understand the director's creative vision, identify areas that can be strengthened, and help bring these episodes across the finish line. Editing Needs May Include Refining pacing and scene transitions Tightening or extending specific moments where needed Improving continuity and overall flow Selecting or adjusting alternate takes when necessary Smoothing existing edits and addressing distracting cuts Strengthening emotional and dramatic moments Reviewing the episodes with a fresh editorial eye Incorporating detailed director revision notes Preparing the picture edit for the next stages of post-production Helping ensure each completed episode feels cohesive, intentional, and professionally presented Important We are not looking for someone to completely re-edit the episodes or replace the director's vision. We are looking for an experienced collaborative editor who can take what already exists and help elevate it. The director will remain actively involved in the editing process and will provide clear notes and creative direction. Strong communication, patience, attention to detail, storytelling instincts, and the ability to work collaboratively are extremely important. Experience editing scripted television, narrative films, crime dramas, or dramatic content is strongly preferred. Experience with DaVinci Resolve is also strongly preferred. Episode-by-Episode Approach For now, the assignment is specifically focused on Episodes 1 and 2. Once those episodes are completely finished and we are satisfied with the collaboration, we would like to move forward to Episode 3, followed by subsequent episodes individually. Our goal is quality over speed. We want to complete one episode at a time, making sure each episode is truly ready before moving to the next. This means there is potential for an ongoing relationship with the right editor, but we are not asking applicants to quote or commit to all eight episodes at this stage.

Hello, I get what you're looking for. Let’s focus on polishing Episodes 1 and 2 to make them shine. I’ll dive into the edits you’ve already got, fine-tuning the pacing and transitions to really enhance the storytelling. This worked well for a previous client who had similar footage; we tightened up their episodes and the final cut felt much more engaging and professional. I know how to spot what needs a little extra love and can help bring that vision to life. What specific moments in Episode 1 do you feel need the most attention? And are there any particular elements in Episode 2 that you're currently unsure about? Ramandeep K.

Hi, Refining an already-strong Episode 1 and 2 is a different skill than building from raw footage — it means reading the existing cut's intent before touching anything, then working within the director's vision rather than imposing a new one. I'd approach the director's notes point by point, testing alternate takes or trims against the scene's existing rhythm, and flagging where tightening actually serves the emotional beat versus where a cut is already doing its job. For crime drama specifically, pacing around tension and reveal moments matters more than raw scene length — I'd look closely at where continuity or a beat feels slightly off and adjust without disrupting what's already working around it. I work daily in Premiere/After Effects; comfortable adapting to DaVinci Resolve for this if that's the required deliverable format. 33 five-star reviews here — collaborative, notes-driven work like this fits how I prefer to work with a director actively involved.

Hi I’d love to help refine Episodes 1 and 2 of 219 and bring the existing edits to a polished, presentation-ready level. I understand that you’re not looking for a complete re-edit, but for an editor who can respect the director’s vision while bringing a fresh editorial eye to pacing, continuity, transitions, scene flow, and emotional moments. I can carefully review the existing cuts, apply detailed director notes, and refine the areas that need more finesse without losing the original creative direction. I have a strong interest in cinematic storytelling and dramatic editing, with attention to pacing, visual continuity, sound, and the overall emotional impact of each scene. I’m also comfortable working collaboratively through multiple rounds of feedback. I’d be happy to start with Episode 1 and build the workflow from there.

In crime drama, tension often dies in the edit long before anyone notices a “bad cut.” Give the audience a reaction too soon, explain a moment that should remain uncertain, or leave a shot half a beat too long and you can change the meaning of the entire scene without changing a single line of dialogue. That’s the level I’d be looking at with 219. Because Episodes 1 and 2 are already substantially edited, I wouldn’t approach them as raw material. I’d approach them as a piece of storytelling that already has a point of view. I’d watch the cuts first to understand where the episodes are withholding information, where they’re building suspicion, and which character beats are carrying the emotional weight. Then I’d refine rather than rebuild: test whether a reaction belongs earlier or later, whether a pause should remain uncomfortable, whether an alternate take changes the meaning of a moment, and whether a transition is carrying tension forward or quietly releasing it. The director's vision stays in control. My job is to make the edit **disappear as an obstacle between that vision and the audience. Would you be willing to give me one scene from Episode 1 and see what I notice before deciding whether my editorial eye is right for 219?

Hi, This is the kind of editing where a fresh editorial eye can make a real difference without taking over the director’s vision. I can work from the existing cuts of Episodes 1 and 2, focusing on pacing, continuity, scene flow, emotional timing, and tightening moments that aren’t landing as strongly as they could. I’m comfortable working collaboratively from detailed director notes and making careful refinements rather than rebuilding everything from scratch. For a scripted crime drama, I’d pay particular attention to tension, pauses, reactions, transitions, and maintaining a consistent rhythm between scenes. I can work with DaVinci Resolve and keep the project organized for the next stages of post-production. I’d be happy to start with Episode 1, establish the workflow with the director, and then move to Episode 2 once the first episode is where you want it. If the collaboration works well, I’d also be interested in continuing episode by episode. Best regards, Language2Solution

As a seasoned video editor with ample experience in post-production, honed storytelling instincts and a collaborative approach, I am confident that I am the right fit for elevating your scripted crime drama series. My mastery in DaVinci Resolve (preferred by your team) demonstrates both my technical prowess and familiarity with the needs of ongoing narrative arcs. Moreover, I commend your emphasis on quality over speed as we share this commitment to ensuring each episode is truly ready before moving on. I thrive in environments where diligent organization and a fresh editorial eye are respected—and these are qualities you have highlighted as important. Most importantly, my professional ethos revolves around collaboration and open communication. I am receptive to feedback, incorporating detailed notes effectively into my work process. This project presents an exciting opportunity for us to develop a symbiotic relationship that can extend beyond these first two episodes. So if you're searching for an editor who can refine without overhauling– one who's skilled at breathing life into readying projects – look no further. Let's embark on this creative journey together.

The focus on polishing Episodes 1 and 2 shows a commitment to quality that I respect. Perfecting these cuts is crucial. If the pacing is off or scenes don't transition smoothly, it can disrupt the audience's connection to the story. I'd start with a thorough review of Episode 1. Identifying where the emotional beats can hit harder is essential. For Episode 2, refining the flow will make the narrative more cohesive. I believe in collaboration, so I’ll integrate the director's notes while maintaining the original vision. Revising and fine-tuning is part of my standard process, ensuring each episode resonates well. What’s the timeline for finishing these episodes? Are there specific assets or notes from the director that I should prioritize?
