I am very interested in doing both parts of your project, so that is certainly open to discussion. I doubt if your document will need to retyped, which will save you time. There is an approach to fixing sick documents and it starts with identifying a theme, identifying header levels (for ToC and aesthetic) then footers etc. I look forward to reviewing your document to determine the challenges you have encountered.
