I need an editor who is a talented "book doctor" for a quirky mainstream novel of about 91,700 words.
Now, an old man, Bob Skinner Jr. looks back on his upbringing in the ancestor-proud, football-crazy farm town of Grunion Glade, Ohio in the 1950's, and relates the life of his cousin, William Feely, a dwarf, football-hating misfit, who is despised by everyone in town. Bob hates his family-appointed job as bodyguard to Willam, who single-handedly causes the town’s beloved football team to lose the league championship for the first time ever, ruins Bob's hopes for a football scholarship and his plans to marry the girl he loves. Most of all, Cousin William uncovers a secret that destroys the town’s rigid social structure, and forever changes the lives of everyone in town. This book is loaded with football, and the history of the Miami-Erie Canal.
I am looking for an editor who can find a grabber beginning (pulled from somewhere else in the book), and speed up the action in the first half of the book. At the same time, much of the detail that seems to bog it down in places, is necessary background knowledge for the reader. Copyediting and grammar correction are not needed. I chose a budget range of $250.00 - $750.00 but this is negotiable.
