Training Employees Through Gamification

I am working with a retail company who is looking to increase their employee's competency with knowledge of the products and HR policies. To do this, I thought up the idea of having each user create an avatar, nothing too complex just a picture of their face in a box, similar to a forum style.
The game will be based on series of questions asked in a multiple choice format. This would include questions on the items they sell, specifications and where they would be useful. These questions will take form in a few different sections of the company- hiking, fishing, hunting, water/outdoor sports, and general clothing. There will be more specific parts within these larger sections. For example, within hiking there would be categories on day hikes, backpacking, and rock climbing.
Achievements will be met when each of the categories is finished and will become the part of larger achievements. Continuing with the hiking example, once the user completes the section on day hikes, they will receive the achievement for that. Once they complete all of the hiking sections, they will become a master of hiking. The larger sections of achievements will prerequisite the biggest achievement which would be something along the lines of "Master of Retail".
We would use this same model for the HR policies, looking at how competent they are with them. It would be included with the same game just as a separate off-shoot.
Badges and mini-challenges should be given to the users to keep spirits up while playing. These can be as simple as completing the first quiz to getting 100% on a certain number of quizzes. These are still in the making but we need to implement them so keep that in mind when making this quote.
