To give you a bit more information, I sell betting information to punters - basically, subscription-based advisory services. I've done it since 1995.
At the moment, I have a business partner who knows a bit about HTML (he's not a professional web designer/developer though) who deals with the emails/sales-related websites that I write.
Anyway, I'm going to be developing my own products soon and I need a smart, modern looking website. I've just registered a new domain - winningonline.co.uk.
At the moment, the current business I'm involved with has a VPS which we use to host a MySQL website (designed by a mate of mine who is java developer and is good at the techie stuff who helps us out now and then).
My mate charges me next to nothing so I would possibly use him (if needed) to get my new site fully working if it requires any back-end work.
On my new website, I'll need the ability to…
1. Communicate with both enquirers and members (in the past for other companies/projects I've set-up, I've used platforms like Aweber and Mailchimp. Note that because I'm in the gambling industry, some of these platforms can be a bit awkward to deal with - i.e. they pull you up about the wording of emails for instance.)
Because I'm not HTML literate, I need an easy/simple way for me to write emails (nothing fancy, but I'll want to communicate with my database quite regularly).
2. Sell products/services. I've already been in touch with a company called Nochex who provide merchant account facilities so I could accept card payments online. What they need from me now is to see my website.
Also...
And this is very important...
I want to deal with a freelancer who is local to me - say, within 15 miles. I live in Buxton, Derbyshire.
The reason I want someone local is for ongoing help with mocking up new pages on my site, or sometimes I'd prefer to meet face-to-face to discuss particular new developments.
Hopefully the above gives you a flavour of what I'm looking for.
