Category linking issue

Products are in their respective categories in admin however clicking on any sub cat in the left hand menu brings up more that their respective list of products.
Also, I need the sub cat list in the left hand menu separated so that the horizontal tabs, IE 'Broadcast' just displays it's A-Z of sub cats (AM/Mediumwave Transmission through to TV Transmission sub cats) on the left rather than the entire list of ALL sub cats.
I'm sure these are fairly simple fixes for a WooCommerce guru.
I'd like it sorted today if possible.
