I have Debian Linux setup on a laptop. The laptop has a wired ethernet connection to my home network with DHCP. I have VMWare Player 7 working in Linux. Running in VMWare Player, I have a Server 2008 VM. I want to setup networking so that the VM's traffic is filtered by IPFilters on the host. I suspect this will involve bridged networking and a virtual adapter or two but I have put some time in and haven't figured this out. You should already know how to do this :-) You'll set it up with me and explain to me the different parts. Success is defined as: 1. No firewall enabled inside the guest VM. 2. VM can ping a name on the internet (so must have DNS working) 3. Web browser on VM can connect on port 80 to [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] see the web pages and act normal. 4. Other inbound/outbound traffic is blocked. i.e. The browser will fail to connect to other sites. Connections to all other ports also blocked. Once this is working, I will build on this and make it more elaborate.

Hi there! If you establish a connection between guest and host via an bridge then you will have to use the firewall configurations in the guest OS to block some of the ports. If you don't want to enable the firewall on the guest OS, network should be established via Natting. Would you mind take a look at your VMWare configuration on your laptop. If you have Teamviewer installed it will be very easy. Thanks, Oshan
