I have this shareware website called [login to view URL] which I had made in Frontpage/dreamweaver way back in 1997, for that time it looked fine.
There are two quite useful sharewares listed there, a Microprocessor Simulator for the 8085 and the Vocab Builder, which were quite popular worldwide with? students and there are users all over the world.
The Simulator is particularly favorite with instructors of Microprocessors.
{They may look a little primitive or clunky to todays developers but they do the job fine. We didnt have so much a century ago, the finest tool then was Delphi. And some novelty. :) }
The problem is that the website has remained the same for the last 10 years and today it looks like a poor website. It doesnt have the brand appeal, doesnt? offer the impression of a happening website, of reliability as a company in India! and hence I have been losing customers.
On the SEO side too, it used to enjoy a Google rating of 5 for many years but that has fallen and I dont get many customers.
I need help from a web developer who can have a hard critical look at the website and has a plan for revamping the whole site. Its a 3 page website.
The things I am looking at are.
1. Better product showcasing on the first page itself.
2. Better presentation and placement of the text material of the website. Screen shots etc. Superior artwork/looks. Cut out crap.
3. The softwares can be shown "at work" by a Flash animation - basically a sequence of chosen screen shots. Today the bandwidth is far better of users. May be use Flex to actually provide? a couple of? buttons to make it work. (but this is not absolutely necessary)
4. Effective Search Engine submission and SEO.
5. Possibly embedded video of someone explaining about the software and its benefits. (2 minutes each) Nothing fancy, but something plain but effective will do.
6. Any other suggestions of better marketing communication that can effect sales.
You may write with your suggestions of what you wish to do, and any examples of what you have in mind if possible. And how much of the above you could do for how much.

(its almost the same as the brief description with a couple of points added in.)

And my 75 year old Dad is asking what happened. :)
On the SEO side too, it used to enjoy a Google rating of 5 for many years but that has fallen and I dont get many customers.
But I am sure the products have increased relevance today than they were in 1995-97. More students learning Microprocessors and more students appearing for the GRE, GMAT tests. And more of both on the Internet.

7. Perhaps, a means to get visitors to come again, include them in an opt in mailer. To get them back, how ??
8. A forum each perhaps of 8085 users, who can post, share code etc. Because people ask me often for homework stuff.
? ? A forum similarly for the harassed lot of word learners worldwide.
? ? (Forum softwares are already resident on the web server. Also PHP and MySQL)
With adequate graphic representation on the website, Free evaluation downloads to be discontinued ? Suggestions?
Because the evaluation version (for the 8085) is good enough for students and hence they never need to buy. :) That was by design initially. The Winzip model.
