Broken validation system needs fixing **URGENTLY**

We have a simple product registration system which has been working fine up until recently.
Each product ships with a unique serial number and verification string.
A MySQL database on the server contains the serial numbers and the md5 hash of the verification string.
Recently customers have been unable to register products.
The first step of this project is to restore functionality to the existing system. Once this is done we will consider rewriting the system into a Wordpress or Concrete5 module.
