NSTextView - Syntax highlighting on scroll

I have an NSTextView with a NSTextStorageDelegate that I use for performing syntax highlighting. In most cases, this works just fine. The problem starts when large amounts of text starts being loading into the view (such as 10,000 lines).
What I would like, is to update the component to only highlight text as it becomes visible (possibly be hooking into the scroll delegate)?
The component also needs to integrate nicely with the NoodleLineNumberView component ([url removed, login to view]).
I will provide a solution that uses my existing solution.
