I have a program that sends an email to a customer.

The customer clicks on a hyperlink in the email and the hyperlink contains a reference to my website (an ASPX page) with a unique GUID.

My program on the website retrieves a PDF document with the matching GUID and this document is downloaded to the user.

(The user is prompted with the standard "Do you wish to save or open this document")

The problem is sometimes an error occurs during the download and the user receives a message saying the file is corrupt.

However, another user on another machine can open it just fine. And sometimes the original user, going back later can download it and open it just fine.

I am looking for an alternative file downloading system, that maybe involves installing an ActiveX control on the user's machine, with a certificate; This new methodology would be more reliable and this occasional corrupt file error would disappear.

A progress bar showing download progress would be nice. Once it is downloaded then the Adobe viewer would be called to view file.

Utilizing a third party control for this is acceptable.

From the user's perspective who is downloading, it should be very automated; The first time they click on the hyperlink on the email they will be prompted to install the activeX control, depending on their browser setttings; I want to use a certificate as well.
