March is a month of unforgettable memories-memories of pride as well as of sorrow and grief. It is a month of proud memories because in this month in 1971, Bangabandhu Shikh Mujibur Rahman declared the independence of Bangladesh. In the early hours of the 26th March, shortly before his arrest by the Pakistani army. Bangabanbhu declared the independence of Bangladesh. Now 26th March is our Independence Day which we annually celebrate with pride and joy.
But March is also a month of sad memories for us. On the 25th March 1971, the Pakistani Army swooped upon the Bangalees. They killed many unarmed and innocent men, women and children in Dhaka. The Bangalees did not let it go unchallenged. They liberation began. On the 16th December of the same year, a new nation independent Bangladesh was born. This is why December 16 is our Victory Day when the Pakistan Army surrendered unconditionally.
Zainul Abedin, an artist of exceptional talent, was born at a village in Kishoregonj on 29 December 1914. His father Jamiruddin was a police officer. He had a great thirst for drawing from his childhood. For this reason, he got himself admitted into Calcutta Government Art College in 1933. He graduate form this college in 1938 and stood first class first. In 1948 he was the founding Institute of which he was the founding principal. In 1975 Zanul Abedin set up a folk museum at Sonargaon
