Financial data plus approvals changes what a flow has to guarantee, so two things go in from the start: idempotency and an audit trail. Retries in Power Automate are cheap and silent, and without an idempotency key on the API side a transient timeout posts the same transaction twice. Every run also writes who approved what and when, because with financial records that question always gets asked later. On the plumbing: custom APIs are reached either through the HTTP action or a proper custom connector. I prefer the custom connector when the API is used in more than one flow, since auth is defined once and credentials stay out of the flow definitions. Worth flagging early that HTTP and custom connectors are premium connectors, so the licensing on your tenant needs to cover it. I check that before building rather than at handover. Approvals I keep as a single reusable child flow with its own escalation and timeout, so adding a second approval process later is configuration and not a rebuild. Two weeks for the first working pair of flows, data transfer and one approval path, tested against your real endpoints in a non production environment. Before scoping it properly, a couple of things I'd want to understand: what systems are on both ends of this — where does the financial data come from and where does it need to land? And when you mention workflow approvals, are those inside Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook) or do they involve external tools? That said, Power Automate is a Microsoft-specific platform, and our strength is more on the custom automation side — n8n, REST APIs, webhooks, direct integrations.
