Call for Pitches: Local Food Stories, Told by Local Video Journalists We're building a global network of video journalists to uncover the food stories hiding in plain sight in your city. ** Please only respond [Removed by Admin for Offsiting] with actual pitches ** Every place has a food story nobody's told on camera yet — the backstory of an ingredient nobody questions, the truck driver who moves produce across a border at 3am, the farmer fighting for a fair price, the trend quietly reshaping how a neighborhood eats. We want to work with journalists who know their city well enough to find that story — and who can shoot it. What food-related question does it answer? What We're Looking For We're recruiting freelance video journalists based in cities around the world to pitch original, character-driven food stories from where they live. We're looking for stories, not stock footage. If you've got something that made you stop and think "wait, someone should film this" - that's exactly what we want to hear about. Story categories (examples, not a checklist): The origin story of a local ingredient — where it comes from, who grows it, why it matters The hidden logistics of food — how something gets shipped, smuggled, imported, or moved across borders Farmer or food-worker rights — labor conditions, pay disputes, land struggles Emerging food trends before they go mainstream elsewhere Disappearing food traditions, techniques, or markets The people behind a dish, a product, or a supply chain most people never think about What makes a strong pitch: It's specific to a place, not generic — it could only be told from where you live There's a clear human subject or subjects, not just a topic It hasn't been widely covered on video before There's visual potential — real locations, real action, real texture How It Works You pitch us. Submit a short written pitch (see template below) describing the story, why it matters, who you'd interview, and what it would look like on camera. We review and respond. If we accept your pitch, we'll confirm scope, deliverables, and payment before you start filming. You film it. Once accepted, you shoot and deliver: At least 2 on-camera interviews with relevant subjects (e.g., the farmer, the trader, the chef, the worker) B-roll footage of the location, process, product, or activity central to the story You get paid. Compensation is for the accepted, delivered footage package (interviews + b-roll) — details on rates below. Compensation Payment is per accepted story, upon delivery of the full footage package (2+ interviews and b-roll as specified above) Rates vary by scope, location, and production complexity — we'll confirm the fee with you before you begin filming, so there are no surprises Payment is made after review of delivered footage meets the agreed brief Who We're Looking For Based in — and deeply familiar with — the city/region you're pitching from Comfortable shooting solo or with a small crew (camera, audio, basic interview setup) Able to secure access and consent from interview subjects Fluent enough in the local language to conduct interviews, with clean translation/subtitling if content isn't in English Prior journalism, documentary, or video production experience preferred but not required if your pitch and past work are strong How to Submit a Pitch Send us the following: Your name, city, and a link to your reel or past work Story pitch (300–500 words): What's the story and why now? What's the food-related question you are answering? Who are the key people you'd interview? What locations/visuals would you capture? Why is this story unique to your city? Availability — how soon you could film if accepted

Subject: Pitch — Lahore's 3AM Food Economy (Akbari Mandi) Story Pitch: Every night around 2-3 AM, while the rest of Lahore sleeps, the city's oldest wholesale market — Akbari Mandi — comes alive. Trucks arrive from farms across Punjab carrying vegetables and fruit, and by the time the sun rises, arhtis (commission agents) have already auctioned and sold most of it. By the time most of the city wakes up and starts its day, this entire economy has already run its full cycle and gone quiet again. Question it answers: Before a vegetable reaches a Lahori kitchen, who prices it, who moves it through the city in the dark, and who risks getting it there before dawn? Why now: This system has run almost unchanged for generations, but stays invisible to those who eat what passes through it. Rising fuel costs and inflation make it a tense, urgent window for drivers and arhtis alike. Interviews: A truck driver on an overnight run from a farming district; an arhti handling pricing and auction; possibly a cart vendor buying at dawn to resell same-day. Locations and visuals: Trucks unloading at night under mixed light, sacks piling up; the live auction — fast and loud; dawn breaking as the market empties; a driver's route into the city. Why Lahore-specific: Akbari Mandi is one of Pakistan's oldest wholesale markets, with an overnight rhythm almost no outsider — or resident — ever sees. Availability: Can start immediately; ready to film within the first week of approval.

Hello, I am a Uruguay-based journalist and trilingual translator. Name: Taher Taheri / Location: Ciudad de la Costa, Uruguay, with access to Canelones/ Past work: [Iranian cultural programme in Paysandu, Uruguay: https://www.freelancer.com/u/tahert07?frm=tahert07&sb=t] STORY PITCH: “The Flock That Pays It Forward” In rural Canelones, a program provides small farmers with ten ewes and one ram. Instead of repaying in cash, each farmer returns fourteen females over five years, enabling another family to begin. My story would follow a participating family through animal care, milking and the transformation of sheep’s milk into local cheese. It asks: can a flock that repays its own loan help small farms survive while building a distinctive food economy? The story combines Canelones’ identity as Uruguay’s food-producing heartland with an unusual model of rural cooperation. The footage would include at least two on-camera interviews, hands-on farming and cheese-making, rural landscapes, detailed b-roll and natural sound. I can interview subjects in Spanish and provide accurate English translations or subtitles. I can begin within 10–14 days of acceptance, subject to access confirmation. My bid includes preliminary reporting and story development. The final scope and fee can be confirmed according to footage volume, technical requirements, travel, editing responsibilities and delivery format. Regards, Taher

I'm excited by your focus on original, place-specific food journalism rather than generic food content. The emphasis on hidden supply chains, local ingredients, and character-driven storytelling aligns closely with the documentary and journalistic projects I've worked on. I have experience in video production, documentary research, interviewing, and visual storytelling, and I'm comfortable handling the entire production workflow—from story development and field research to filming interviews, capturing cinematic B-roll, and organizing deliverables. What I bring is not only production capability but also the ability to identify compelling local stories with strong human subjects and visual depth. I can develop pitches that answer meaningful food-related questions while ensuring they are authentic, underreported, and rooted in local culture. I can independently coordinate interviews, obtain permissions, conduct research, and deliver well-structured footage packages that meet editorial requirements. If selected, I'd be happy to share relevant portfolio samples and discuss story ideas from my region that fit your editorial vision. I look forward to contributing unique food stories that audiences haven't seen before.

Your call for stories immediately caught my attention because the best food stories are rarely about food alone—they're about people, livelihoods, culture, and the unseen systems that shape everyday life. As a freelance filmmaker and visual storyteller, I specialize in finding those overlooked narratives and turning them into engaging, visually rich productions. I can research, pitch, film, and deliver character-driven stories featuring authentic voices, strong interview subjects, and compelling real-world locations. Whether it's a disappearing food tradition, an overlooked producer, a unique local ingredient, or the people working behind a supply chain, I know how to build a story that feels both local and globally relevant. I am comfortable shooting interviews, gathering high-quality B-roll, managing audio, and producing footage that is editorially useful and visually engaging. Most importantly, I understand how to identify stories that could only be told from a specific place and time. I'd love to discuss potential story concepts from my region and share examples of my previous work.

Subject: Story Pitch – The Hidden Journey of Nigeria's Yam Trade Dear Londish Team, My name is Alexander Vibez, a freelance journalist and storyteller based in Enugu, Nigeria. I would like to pitch a character-driven documentary titled "The Midnight Journey of Nigeria's Yam Trade." Every dawn, Enugu's major markets fill with fresh yams, yet few people know the overnight journey that brings them there. This story answers the question: How does one of Nigeria's most important staple foods travel from rural farms to urban tables, and who makes that possible? The documentary follows a small-scale yam farmer, an overnight truck driver, and a wholesale market trader as they navigate poor roads, rising transport costs, and volatile food prices. Their stories reveal the unseen people sustaining Nigeria's food supply. Filming will include rural farms, nighttime highway transport, pre-dawn market arrivals, trading activities, unloading, and vibrant market life, supported by cinematic B-roll and on-camera interviews. This story is unique to southeastern Nigeria, where yam is central to culture, livelihoods, and food security. Despite its importance, the human stories behind its supply chain remain largely untold on video. I am available to begin filming immediately upon acceptance and can deliver interviews, B-roll, and supporting footage within the agreed timeline. Thank you for your consideration. Hello, My name is Pooja Patel, based in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. I’m a video editor and content creator, and I’d like to pitch a local food story about the hidden journey behind one of Central India’s most familiar foods: poha. **The Story:** *Where Does Dewas's Poha Come From?* Every morning, poha is served across Madhya Pradesh, but few people ask where the rice flakes come from, who processes them, and how they travel from farms and traders to local vendors and breakfast tables. The story asks: **What does it take to bring a simple plate of poha from the agricultural supply chain to a breakfast table in Dewas?** I would interview local poha vendors, traders or wholesalers, and, where access is possible, farmers or processors. I’d capture early-morning markets, grain loading, processing, busy food stalls, preparation, and customers enjoying the final dish. The story offers a human look at the people behind an everyday food and the supply chain most consumers never see. Its strong visual potential and local perspective make it a story that could only be told from Dewas. **Location:** Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, India **Availability:** Available to film soon after approval. Thanks!!

Nestled in the hills overlooking the Jordan River, Om Ahmad's family-run bed and breakfast is built on two enduring principles: exceptional food and meaningful community. After the passing of her husband, Om Ahmad transformed her family home into a welcoming retreat for travelers hiking the 650-kilometre Jordan Trail, while creating opportunities for women from the surrounding villages. The family grows much of its own produce and prepares every meal from scratch, embodying the generosity and hospitality for which rural Jordan is known. More than a place to stay, it offers visitors an authentic glimpse into a way of life rooted in resilience, tradition, and human connection. Having grown up in Jordan and experienced its hospitality throughout my life, I found my stay with Om Ahmad's family to be genuinely exceptional. This documentary will adopt a cinéma vérité approach, using a minimal two-camera setup and professional audio to capture the family's daily rhythm without intrusion. Through interviews with the hosts and their guests, alongside observational footage of farming, cooking, and shared meals, the film will tell a story that extends beyond food and accommodation. It is a portrait of a family preserving tradition, empowering their community, and reminding us that genuine hospitality remains one of the most powerful ways people connect across cultures.
