Established in 2005, Fairtrade Africa is the independent non-profit umbrella organization representing all Fairtrade certified producers in Africa. Fairtrade Africa is owned by its members, who are African producer organizations certified against international Fairtrade standards producing traditional export commodities such as coffee, cocoa, tea, cotton, bananas, mango, and non- traditional commodities including shea butter and rooibos tea. Currently, the organization represents over 1.18 million smallholder farmers and workers across 28 countries in Africa. ABOUT FAIRTRADE’S SUSTAINABILITY IMPACTS Beyond creating fair trade for farmers and promoting decent livelihoods for farmers and workers, environmental protection is a key element of Fairtrade’s view of sustainability. Fairtrade Standards require producers and operators in the value chain to comply in key areas. The Standards also promote training for farmers, which can include advice on switching to environmentally friendly practices. This has been shown to lead to good agricultural practices, which have encouraged environmentally sustainable production. The Standards also guide producers in adapting to climate change and mitigate their impact. SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT Fairtrade Africa will be taking part in various conferences on sustainability in the wine industry throughout 2022. The first such conference is Green Wine Future for which Fairtrade Africa has to present a 15 minute video showcasing Fairtrade’s impact in sustainability in the wine industry. FTA wishes to engage the services of a qualified individual(s), firm(s) or institution(s) to carry out the following task: Produce a video documentary in the most powerful, effective and innovative way to show the impact of Fairtrade in the wine industry in South Africa, with a focus on environmental and social sustainability. EXPECTED OUTPUTS • 15minute video showcasing 3 producers and the sustainability initiatives they implement. • 3 x 5minute cutdowns • Content should include footage of the farm/landscape and interviews with subject matter person/s. Video Production This will entail production of a video documentary of how producers have implemented various environmental and social initiatives and projects thanks to Fairtrade. The video will be used to showcase and educate stakeholders on how Fairtrade has a positive impact on people and planet. DESIRED EXPERIENCE/EXPERTIS FTA is looking for individual consultant(s), firm(s), or institution(s) with demonstrated experience in developing video documentaries with NGO’s on sustainability issues. In addition, the said should possess the following. ● An individual or agency with at least five (5) years expertise in producing quality video documentaries that deal with sustainable development subjects. Technical and Functional Competencies to include: ● Experiences of performing similar kind of task ● Excellent writing and communication skills; ● Demonstrate openness to change and ability to receive / integrate feedback in project management process; ● Good networking skills to engage with both technical and non-technical people. DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT The successful individual consultant(s), firm(s) or institution(s) is/are expected to carry out the assignment before 7 May 2022.
