Change serach in WordPress theme

I need a change in the way my theme location search works. Currently, for example, you cannot just search for results in one entire country, e.g. for all of Italy. If you only enter "Italy", the entries for Italy will not be displayed, even if they exist. According to the developers of the theme google maps is based on latitude and longitude, not locations. That's totally uncommon and stupid because for this as a customer you would have to know (as a first time visitor...), that if you want to see results for all of Italy in general, you have to enter, for example, "Rome, Italy" and then the largest possible radius (in the hope that other entries will not be displayed across countries). So you would have to change google maps search based on latitude and longitude to location based search. When a country is set, then deactivate a radius search and when a location is set, then activate a radius search.
