Final year project: VEHICLE REACTIVE NEVIGATION SYSTEM IN OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT Microcontroller use: AT89S52 (Atmel) Language of Implementation: C DESCRIPTION: In this study a reactive navigation controller using sensors has been designed. The reactive controller deals with the uncertainty and ambiguity of the information the system (mobile robot) receive an experimental mobile robot holding a set of ultrasonic proximity sensors to extract the knowledge from its surroundings. The developed technique generates satisfactory real time safe movements of the autonomous vehicle. Simulation and experimental results show that the method can be satisfactory used by mobile robots moving on unknown static terrains. Reactive navigation can improve the performance of robotic systems by solving simple subtasks without requiring the update of internal plans: it involves only the mapping of perceptual situations onto control commands. Fuzzy systems and neural networks are both efficient methods for learning such a mapping from training data, avoiding its annoying and error-prone programming.
