Contest Brief
The Contest Holder is seeking a talented artist to create a single completely original illustration for an educational publication. The description of the illustration is given as below.
The Scene:
- An old English library (see example attached). Instead of desks, there should be a board room table (so that many people can sit at it).
- Seated at the table is Person 1 (an English gentleman 45 years of age dressed in a suit of the 1890s, Victorian era style). Person 1 is a solicitor (lawyer). He is presenting a one-page document, a letter, to Person 2 (an English lady 40 years of age seated next to Person 1). She is reading the document as Person 1 is giving her a pen so that she can sign the document.
There are 8 other people in the room (Persons 3 to 10):
- Person 3 is a gentleman aged 47 who is seated next to Person 2 (the lady reading the one-page document). He is Person 2’s husband and is waiting to sign the document himself. He is watching Person 2 as she reads the documents.
- Persons 4 to 10 (three ladies and five gentlemen aged between 30 and 70). Two of these people are sitting at the board room table talking to one another. The other people are standing around talking in small groups. Persons 4 to 10 have either already signed the letter that Person 2 is in the process of signing, or they are waiting to sign it.
- The whole purpose of the 10 people gathering in this room at this particular time is for Person 1 to present the letter that he has drafted for each of Persons 2 to 10 to sign.
The Contest Holder is flexible as to the style of illustration, provided that it portrays the following:
- the formal nature of the gathering in 1890, in a solicitor’s boardroom/library in London, England;
- all persons in the illustration are treating the event of signing the document as a very serious affair;
- landscape dimensions
The Contest Holder will endeavour to narrow down the best entries at various stages:
1. Freelancer should submit pencil sketch so Contest Holder can see if the general layout of room and people is worthy of further development. 1-star will be given if suitable. Rejected if not.
2. Freelancer should then develop the 1-star sketch in more detail to near completion. 2-stars will be given if the Contest Holder is impressed with the development. Rejected if not.
3. Freelancer should then proceed to introduce colour scheme style. 3-stars will be given if Contest Holder is impressed. Rejected if not.
4. Four and Five stars will be reserved for the entries that reach the final stage.
The final handover file should be high resolution in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator format capable of being blown up for high quality publication/printing.
By submitting an entry, and being awarded the prize, the Freelancer agrees that copyright in their entry will vest in the Contest Holder.
