Some of the key points to be followed are as below- 1)The hoop stresses can be resisted by thin steel bars (or rings) imbedded horizontally in the mortar beds between the brick courses. You need to get the resultant tension force for the course and check the safety of the ring/hoop bar(s). 2)The compressive stress at any (critical) point can be resolved into a vertical (compressive) stress and a horizontal shearing stress.
